CROWNING is a project that traces and celebrates the histories of Head wraps on Black bodies. This project is made up if four interconnected parts. These parts intertwine to form one whole that explores, traces and celebrates Head wraps on the bodies of Black people through different times and spaces.

A Head wrap is a piece of cloth tied to the head. It can be any fabric, texture, colour or design.

Ubuntu Talks teamed up with talented Black photographers in different parts of the world to bring forth a global perspective of CROWNING. Together, we are able to show the beauty and versatility of Head wraps as they are worn in different cities and spaces.
